    SHARELIFE CONSTRUCTION HISTORY
The following entries detail God's faithfulness throughout the many months leading up to actual construction starting. What a wonderful reminder of how good God is and how we can do nothing apart from Him!

    * GOOD NEWS! * The final appeal for the Bethany project was dismissed this week. We are working to obtain all of the necessary permits from the city, and anticipate demolition and earthwork at the end of the month, or first of December.

    Thank you for your prayers!

On September 18th the hearing examiner dismissed the Bagley parking lot appeal, affirming the city's decision on the project, and authorizing the Seattle School District and Bethany to receive the construction permit. Thank you for your prayers!

The Bethany sanctuary permit is in the final stage of approval, and we anticipate it will be released soon. Construction is scheduled to begin the first part of October at Bagley, and soon after at Bethany.

  • PRAYER REQUESTS: The September 13 hearing on the Bagley parking lot went well. A decision will be provided within 15 days. The Bethany permit is under final review at the Department of Planning and Development (DPD), pending the Bagley hearing decision. Please pray for quick resolution. Please pray that this process won’t significantly delay the project.
  • GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY: On August 6th, over 200 people in our community gathered together to celebrate and pray for the construction of the new building. If you have not received a prayer card, please pick one up at the Share Life information table in the foyer or contact Philip Peterson @ (206) 524-9000 ext.16. There are pictures from the August 6th Ground Breaking in the Sharelife Gallery.

  • DATES FOR ACTUAL GROUND BREAKING: Pre-construction is in full-swing so we are ready to begin when the permits are released. We are anticipating demolition and groundwork to occur late-September.
  • DONATION TO UNION GOSPEL MISSION: Appliances from the houses along 80th were donated to the Union Gospel Mission on August 16th.

Please see the following attachment "CONSTRUCTION UPDATE August 8" for a formal update on Sharelife construction. Specifically, you'll find more info on:

We invite our community to come together on Sunday, August 6th @ 12:00 p.m., for a Ground Breaking Celebration! to commit this project to our Lord.

    BETHANY BOND PROGRAM

The Bethany Bond Memorandum was approved by the State of Washington. Copies of the memorandum have been sent out to those in our community who have expressed interest in the bond program. If you would like a copy of the bond memorandum or more information on this investment opportunity, please contact Philip Peterson (philipp@churchbcc.org) in the church office (206-524-9000).

    SHARE LIFE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

  • Prayer Request: Please pray for safety as construction laborers begin working on site. And, please pray that this buildling project would be an encouragement and witness for our community and for those in our neighborhood.
  • Updated Schedule: Ground breaking expected mid-to-late August for Bethany's New Sanctuary and the Bagley Parking Lot.
  • Important Notice: On Monday, July 24th the entrance to the Christian Education building will be temporarily closed due to construction in the foyer. Alternate entrances are available at the northwest corner and the west side of the building. All events will continue as planned. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Qwest relocated all phone utilities in the alleyway to make way for the new sanctuary. Most noticeably, the utility poles in the alleyway and in front of the existing sanctuary along Stone were both removed. All phone lines were redirected along N. 80th Street.
  • On July 12th, the Re Store salvaged items from the houses along 80th St. Those housing components are currently for sale at their Ballard location. They are scheduled to come again just before demolition to remove more salvageable items.
  • On July 15th, a crew of volunteers salvaged additional items from the houses along N. 80th St. that were already claimed for purchase.
  • American Environmental Abatement removed asbestos on July 18th – July 21th from the houses along N. 80th St.
  • Steve Terrell, a landscape architect and a member at Bethany, completed design for the feature garden (to be located over the Martinez home).

On July 11th, the Bethany Council and Finance Committee met to review and discuss the proposed facility expansion. The Council approved a plan to finance the construction, which includes a combination of Sharelife contributions, the bond offering, and other financing. Thanks to all who prayed. We invite our community to come together on Sunday, August 6th @ 12:00 p.m., for a Ground Breaking Celebration! to commit this project to our Lord.

On June 20th, the Church Council unanimously confirmed support for the Share Life vision. We are faced with questions and decisions related to project financing. The Finance Committee is addressing these issues. Please pray for spiritual wisdom and discernment for the Church Council and Finance Committee as they meet on July 11th to determine how to proceed.

    Design and Permitting Update
During the past month, we’ve finalized the design and submitted for the building permit. Through the permit process, who chose to include a fire rating upgrade to the nursery space that allows for occupancy of a future preschool (age 2 ˝ and older). And, despite a turbulent year of school closure decisions, we have also executed a long-term parking agreement with Seattle Public Schools in preparation for the parking lot construction. The nursery upgrade, in conjunction with an executed agreement that was considered ‘impossible’ strengthens our partnership with the school, whose leadership would like to see a preschool in close proximity to their site.

    Construction Update and Schedule
Kirtley Cole Associates, LLC (contractor) is in the process of estimating the final design. Pending Church Council approval of the financing plan in mid-July, salvage from the rental houses and environmental abatement will follow. Construction of the shared parking lot is scheduled for the end of July, with demolition on Bethany’s property and construction the second week of August.

As Doug Winn provided leadership through the planning, architect selection, design and contractor selection, (even now from his new home in Oregon) he leaves large shoes to fill as we transition to the actual construction. We are pleased to have selected JRP Engineering, owned by Jim Perrault, to represent Bethany during construction. Jim is a long-time attendee at Bethany, and we are grateful for his willingness to share his firm’s leadership for the construction phase.

    Finance Update
As of June 30th, there has been over $3,435,000 pledged by 359 families. Of this $3,435,000, we have received $1,182,547. The Bethany Bond program has generated nearly half a million dollars of support. Families and individuals who have indicated a planned investment in the Bond program will soon receive additional information. The remaining gap between amounts raised and total project price is under study by the finance committee, which will be making a recommendation to the Church Council in mid-July.

If you have questions regarding the Share Life Stewardship Focus, the Bethany Bond program, or construction related issues, please contact Philip Peterson (philipp@churchbcc.org) in the church office (206-524-9000).

Thank you for your continued prayer.
