Since December of 1995, I have had the privilege of sharing life with the people who are Bethany Community Church. I attended here as a university student in the 70's, little realizing then that someday, in God's economy, I would return to shepherd this flock. As a candidate for the position, I had written to the search committee that "The Bethany Community is a healthy church, poised to make an even greater difference in this rich and beautiful city, as the grace of Christ which has been rooted here for so long begins to spring forth in news ways for new generations." During the past 10 years, we've seen this very thing happen, as a new generation of believers have joined our community, and together we are utilizing their gifts to serve God's purposes, building on the faithfulness of those who have gone before them, and working intergenerationally to be a testimony of hope for our city.
And now we are at a crossroads, where God has placed before us the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow. We are being called to step into a future that empowers leaders to begin new ministries, serve our neighborhood in new ways, and share Christ's life through the beginning of new churches in the Puget Sound region and beyond. A critical step in this vision is the expansion of our existing facilities. This expansion will allow our current ministries and community to continue growing and reaching our city, and will better serve all who call Bethany Community Church home, both now and in the future.
At this moment in our history, our calling to share life is embodied in our calling to pray together, and to respond to God's leadership in our lives as we share the resources He's given us to create a future that is far greater than any of us could create on our own. I'm genuinely excited to see what God will do in each of our lives, and in our life together as we spend time asking ourselves how we are stewarding the riches of time, energy, gifts, and money that God has given each of us. As we listen to for God's voice and respond, sharing the life that he's given us, I am confident that the next chapter in our lives and our community will be an adventure beyond what we can presently imagine. Take a moment to read about where we've been and where we're going. Thank you in advance for joining us on the journey.
In His Service,
Richard Dahlstrom, Senior Pastor
